關(guān)于DCS控制站的系統(tǒng)軟件，包括實(shí)時操作系統(tǒng)、編程語言及編譯系統(tǒng)、數(shù)據(jù)庫系統(tǒng)、自診斷系統(tǒng)等，只是*程度不同而已。第二代DCS控制站開始有面向過程語言和高級語言；第三代DCS控制站的系統(tǒng)軟件可以完成離線組態(tài)及在線修改控制策略。為了完成控制策略，對于順序控制和批量控制組態(tài)編程，各種DCS控制站采用不同的方法。

DCS操作站

DCS操作站具有操作員功能、工程師功能、通信功能和高級語言功能等，其中工程師功能中包括系統(tǒng)組態(tài)、系統(tǒng)維護(hù)、系統(tǒng)通用（Utility）功能，還有系統(tǒng)配置、操作標(biāo)記、趨勢記錄、歷史數(shù)據(jù)管理、總貌畫面組態(tài)、控制站組態(tài)、工藝單元或區(qū)域組態(tài)等。
 
實(shí)際的DCS操作站是典型的計算機(jī)，它與控制站不同，有著豐富的外圍設(shè)備和人機(jī)界面。在人機(jī)界面方面，逐漸過渡為以GUI圖形用戶界面為平臺并采用鼠標(biāo)，組態(tài)時制作流程圖和控制回路圖等采用菜單、窗口等，使人機(jī)界面友好。第三代DCS操作站是在個人計算機(jī)（PC）及Windows操作系統(tǒng)普及和通用監(jiān)控圖形軟件已商品化的基礎(chǔ)上誕生的。DDE或OPC接口技術(shù)，以太網(wǎng)接口與管理網(wǎng)絡(luò)相連。DCS系統(tǒng)組態(tài)、操作站組態(tài)、控制站組態(tài)均有相應(yīng)軟件，為DCS用戶的工程設(shè)計人員提供人機(jī)界面。有的DCS的采用通用監(jiān)控圖形軟件，或以此類軟件為核心，進(jìn)行二次開發(fā)。

DCS所存在的問題，主要集中在3個方面：
1、即系統(tǒng)開放性問題;
2、與現(xiàn)場傳感器、變送器、執(zhí)行器的接線問題；
3、價格較貴問題[1]。
這些問題在第三代DCS中已開始得到解決。在21世紀(jì)，新一代的DCS應(yīng)滿足用戶這方面的需求。
在DCS應(yīng)用行業(yè)分布上，如對DCS產(chǎn)品進(jìn)行改造，

是可以保持其在這些行業(yè)中的地位的。

PLC的誕生和發(fā)展
 
1968年，通用汽車公司的油壓部門確立了*個可編程控制器的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，他們的目的是消除既復(fù)雜又昂貴的繼電器控制系統(tǒng)。該設(shè)計規(guī)格需要固態(tài)系統(tǒng)和電腦技術(shù)，并要求能夠在工業(yè)環(huán)境中生存，也能夠方便地編程，并且可以重復(fù)使用。到1969年，*個PLC誕生。當(dāng)時稱為可編程控制器，英文是Programmable Controller，縮寫為PC。由于*代PLC是為了取代繼電器的，因此，采用了梯形圖語言作為編程方式，形成了工廠的編程標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。這些早期的控制器滿足了zui初的要求，并且打開了新的控制技術(shù)的發(fā)展的大門。在很短的時間，PLC就迅速擴(kuò)展到食品、飲料、金屬加工、制造和造紙等多個行業(yè)。
 
PLC通常根據(jù)CPU所帶的I/O點(diǎn)數(shù)的規(guī)模分為微型PLC、小型PLC、中型PLC、大型PLC、PC插卡式PLC以及PC兼容的PLC。各種規(guī)模分類標(biāo)準(zhǔn)如附表所示。

Communication between the FBMs the I/A Series control station is via Fieldbus Communication Modules (FCMs), which interface the 2 Mbps module Fieldbus used by the FBMs with the 10 Mbps Ethernet trunk Fieldbus used by the I/A Series control station.
